Sample Itinerary of School Trip to Iceland:
Day 1:
Fly to Iceland from chosen UK airport and land at Keflavik. You'll be transferred to a hotel which is near the Blue Lagoon where you will stay for 2 nights. During day one, you'll visit the Blue Lagoon geothermal spa.
Home to one of 25 wonders of the world, the Blue Lagoon in Iceland is a place where the powers of geothermal seawater create transformational spa journeys. The beautiful milky-blue water is unlike anything else found on earth and sits at 39°C year-round, making it the perfect bathing temperature.
Day 2:
For your second day near the Blue Lagoon you'll visit the lava landscape and volcano park. This park of Iceland is famous for its volcanic landscape. As we drive along the Reykjanes peninsula, you are constantly in the presence of the roaring Atlantic Ocean, endless lava fields, and volcanic craters. An alien landscape, decorated by windblown palagonite and petrified troll formations. We will stop at the youngest volcano in Iceland, Fagradalsfjall Volcano, and the surrounding lava fields. The hike up to the craters takes about 40 minutes, where you will be able to explore the devastating yet beautiful aftermath of this recent volcanic eruption.
Day 3
This morning we will drive you into Reykjavik, the capital of Iceland where you'll enjoy a Whale Watching tour. Starting at the Old Harbour, you will get to see the incredible wealth of marine wildlife just off Reykjavík’s shores. The most commonly spotted Cetacea include humpback whales, minke whales, orcas, fin whales, sperm whales, and even the largest animal on the planet, the blue whales. Alongside the large whales, white-beaked dolphins, harbour porpoises and seals are commonly seen, and occasionally basking sharks. After the whale watching tour, you'll be driven to the Golden Circle area where you will stay for the remaining three nights.
Day 4
Today you'll see Thingvellir National Park where you will walk among the geological wonders of the fissure zone and in the footsteps of the early Viking settlers where the Althingi parliament was founded. Then its a quick detour to the famous Gullfoss waterfall where you can feel the mist of glacial water as it cascades down one of Iceland’s most famous waterfalls. Finally hear the bubbling of the mud pots of the Geysir and watch in awe as the geyser Strokkur blasts boiling water into the air.
Day 5:
Today its another adventure around South Iceland. Among the stops today are the gorgeous Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss waterfalls. Seljalandsfoss is part of the Seljalandsá river, which has its origins in Eyjafjallajökull glacier. What makes Seljalandsfoss so famous and interesting is that you can walk behind it. We recommend you bring either a raincoat or a waterproof coat along if you want to stroll behind it which we of course highly recommend. Skógafoss, another famous Icelandic waterfall, is the starting point of the Fimmvörðuháls walk over to Þórsmörk. This most picturesque of all waterfalls is something of a film star, having been used as a backdrop in films such as Thor: The Dark World and The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.
Day 6:
It's time to head home. You'll be transferred from your hotel back to Keflavik airport where you'll fly back to your chosen UK airport. It'll certainly be an Iceland School Trip to remember!
