What is Strokkur Geysir?

Considered Iceland’s most visited active geysir, Stokkur is one of the three major attractions of Iceland’ famous Golden Circle sightseeing tour alongside Gullfoss waterfall and Thingvellir National Park.

Located in the breathtaking Haukadalur Valley the famous Great Geysir has now stopped erupting but nearby its baby brother Strokkur now puts up a magical show every 4-10 minutes creating an instant wow-choir in the crowd resent.

Watching a the Stokkur Geyrsir erupt is one of the best experiences to have in Iceland and shouldn’t be missed by anyone visiting the country. It not only excites with its fantastic eruptions every few minutes, but its rural location also gives you the perfect chance to experience some of the most beautiful and rural parts of Iceland.

Where is Strokkur Geysir?

The Strokkur Geysir is located in the geothermally active valley of Haukadalur in South Iceland. It is only 99.2 km (61,6 mi) from Reykjavík if you take the Thingvallavegur route, otherwise around 107 km (66,4 mi).

How to get to Strokkur Geysir?

There are several ways to get to Strokkur Geysir. If you are staying in the centre of Reykjavik and are choosing to hire a car, you can easily make your own way there by driving through Mosfellsdalur, past Thingvellir National Park following road number 36. The road soon switches to road 365 and as you pass Lake Laugarvatn it turns to road 37. Continue on this road without any turns and you will soon start noticing some geothermal feature, smoke and possibly even a geyser eruption.

Another Iceland hotel in the Golden Circle region is Hotel Laxnes. Ideally located in the middle of rural Iceland, nicely inbetween the capital of Reykjavik and the Golden Circle route, the hotel gives sightseers everything they need. All of the rooms have either views of the mountains or the clear sky for when the northern lights appear at night.
