In 2019, Iceland welcomed a world-class planetarium in one of its water tanks, the first of its kind in Iceland.
The planetarium is built as part of the nature exhibition Wonders of Iceland which already includes the exhibitions Glaciers and Ice cave, and Water in Icelandic Nature. One of the incredible films produced here is an 8K resolution Northern Lights show, named Áróra. It is a must-see piece of art that brought together Iceland’s best known writers, musician and photographers. It takes you on a journey, through the unique landscape of Iceland, to observe Northern lights as you’ve never seen them. Taking you across time and space, to understand the science behind the mystery.
There’s also a short film called Lost in time which delivers a mesmerizing view of the beautiful Icelandic nature. The dome‘s 360 degree perspective, gives life to natural phenomenon like waterfalls, glaciers, lava fields and volcano eruptions, with its exceptional screen quality. In the Perlan museum you can also learn more about Iceland’s nature in a range of interactive exhibitions. Explore the world’s first real indoor ice cave and see how Iceland was formed. Explore seabirds in a lifelike cliff and go on a cinematic underwater journey around Iceland. You also explore a hands-on exhibition about water, by The Icelandic Museum of Natural History. Finally, enjoy 360 degree views over Reykjavík from our Observation Deck. There are picture panels and various geological samples from around Reykjavík.
