What you'll do

Day 1: Arrival in Reykjavik

Your adventure begins as you arrive at Keflavik Airport. From there, take the airbus transfer to Reykjavik, Iceland's vibrant capital. After checking into your hotel, enjoy a relaxed evening in the city, perhaps taking a walk around the harbor or dining at one of the local restaurants.

Day 2: Explore Reykjavik

Spend your day discovering Reykjavik's rich culture and unique charm. Visit landmarks like the Hallgrímskirkja Church, the Harpa Concert Hall, and the Sun Voyager sculpture. Take time to wander around the city’s cafes, boutiques, and museums, or enjoy a relaxing soak in one of the city's famous geothermal swimming pools.

Day 3: Fly to Husavik and Collect Car Hire

On day 3, catch a flight from Reykjavik to Husavik, located in the north of Iceland. Upon arrival, pick up your rental car and check into your accommodation. Husavik, known as the whale watching capital of Iceland, offers incredible scenic beauty. Take a leisurely evening to relax or explore the small town's harbor area.

Day 4: Husavik Whale Watching

This day is dedicated to whale watching in Husavik, where you will have the chance to spot orca, humpback, and minke whales, as well as dolphins and seabirds. With its clear waters and rich marine life, Husavik offers some of the best whale watching experiences in the world. Afterward, take some time to enjoy the tranquil surroundings or visit the Whale Museum.

Day 5: Explore Lake Myvatn

After a hearty breakfast, drive to the stunning Lake Myvatn area, known for its volcanic landscapes, geothermal activity, and birdlife. Explore the bubbling mud pots at Hverir, the unique lava formations at Dimmuborgir, and relax in the soothing waters of the Myvatn Nature Baths. Myvatn is a UNESCO Global Geopark and offers a wealth of natural beauty and geological wonders.

Day 6: Explore More of North Iceland

Today, continue your exploration of North Iceland. Visit the spectacular Dettifoss Waterfall, one of Europe’s most powerful waterfalls, and explore the stunning Ásbyrgi Canyon, part of Vatnajökull National Park. You can also take a trip to the town of Akureyri, known as the "Capital of North Iceland," for a charming and cultural experience.

Day 7: Explore Egilsstadir

Drive east toward the charming town of Egilsstadir, nestled in the Eastern Fjords. Explore the picturesque landscapes of this region, with its dramatic fjords, mountains, and tranquil lakes. Visit the nearby Seydisfjordur, a colorful town known for its artistic vibe, and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere.

Day 8: Explore More Places Around Egilsstadir

Take this day to explore the lesser-known areas around Egilsstadir. Discover the stunning Hengifoss waterfall, one of Iceland’s tallest waterfalls, and visit the nearby Litlanesfoss, where you can admire the basalt column formations. You can also explore the rugged coastline of the East Fjords and enjoy some remote, peaceful hiking trails.

Day 9: Explore Vatnajökull National Park

Drive south to Vatnajökull National Park, one of Europe’s largest national parks, known for its glaciers, volcanic landscapes, and unique wildlife. Spend your day exploring the park's stunning features, including glaciers, ice caves, and towering peaks. Don’t miss the Svartifoss waterfall, which is surrounded by impressive basalt columns.

Day 10: Glacier Lagoon Boat Tour

On day 10, enjoy a boat tour of Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon, where massive icebergs float peacefully in the lagoon, creating one of the most surreal landscapes in Iceland. You may even spot seals playing in the waters. This iconic location is a photographer’s paradise and a must-see during your time in Iceland.

Day 11: Explore Skaftafell

Today, head to the Skaftafell area within Vatnajökull National Park. Enjoy a hike through the beautiful scenery, including the famous Svartifoss waterfall. You can opt for a guided glacier hike or simply explore the nearby trails, where you’ll be surrounded by incredible landscapes of glaciers, rivers, and lush vegetation.

Day 12: Katla Track Ice Cave Tour from Vik

Drive towards Vik and embark on a guided ice cave tour of Katla, an active volcano beneath the Mýrdalsjökull glacier. Explore the stunning ice caves and discover the surreal blue and white ice formations. It’s a thrilling and unforgettable experience that brings you deep into Iceland's frozen interior.

Day 13: Explore South Iceland

Today is dedicated to exploring the breathtaking landscapes of South Iceland. Visit the famous Seljalandsfoss and Skogafoss waterfalls, where you can walk behind Seljalandsfoss for a truly unique perspective. Continue to the black sand beaches of Reynisfjara, with its basalt columns and dramatic ocean views.

Day 14: Explore More of South Iceland

On your final full day, continue your exploration of South Iceland. Visit the Fjaðrárgljúfur Canyon, a stunning, serpentine canyon carved by glacial meltwater. You can also visit the Solheimajokull Glacier for a chance to see an ice cap up close. If time allows, take a detour to the picturesque town of Hveragerdi, known for its geothermal activity.

Day 15: Return Flight Home

On your final day in Iceland, drive back to Reykjavik for your return flight. Depending on your flight time, you may have a few hours left to explore the capital or relax before heading to Keflavik Airport for your flight back home, taking with you memories of an unforgettable Icelandic adventure.
