What you'll do
Day 1: Arrive in Iceland
Fly in from your chosen UK airport and land safely at Keflavik.
Pick up your car hire from the airport and drive to your Reykjavik hotel
Take the afternoon to explore the capital and enjoy some tasty Icelandic food for dinner
Stay overnight at your Reykjavik hotel
Day 2: The Golden Circle
Drive towards the Golden Circle and explore the area. Combining history, culture and extraordinary nature, you can see Thingvellir National Park and walk among the geological wonders of the fissure zone and in the footsteps of the early Viking settlers where the Althingi parliament was founded. You can then see the Gullfoss and feel the mist of glacial water as it cascades down one of Iceland’s most famous waterfalls. Finally, you can witness the Geysir and hear the bubbling of the mud pots, smell the sulphur in the air and watch in awe as the geyser Strokkur blasts boiling water into the air.

Day 3: Akureyri
Drive north on the ring road clockwise to Akyreyri and stay 1 night in Husavik.
Being renowned as the whale watching capital of Iceland, thousands of travelers visit Húsavík every year with the hope of spotting whales. Naturally, as seeing the cetaceans is simply amazing! No one should wonder why this is one of the biggest attractions in Iceland. Additionally, the choice of activities and restaurants are now plentiful.

Day 4: Diamond Circle
Explore the Diamond Ring and then in the late afternoon, drive across the desert moonscape and the highland plateu to Egillsstadir.
Egilsstadir is located inland from the coast and is considered the hub of East Iceland. The landscape in this remote part of the island exhibits a rich variety in colour and local folklore tells equally colourful tales of elves and other mythical creatures such as the Lagarfljotsormur, an ancient serpentine monster believed to be swimming in the depths Lagarfljot Lake. There are nearby hiking trails as well for those who want to explore by foot.

Day 5: Eastern Fjords
In the morning, drive south through the spectacular Eastern Fjords to the town of Hofn.
Hofn is, on an Icelandic scale, a large settlement in the South East. The town is known for its fishing village charm, incredible lobster restaurants, and incomparable sights. In close proximity of the town, you will find glistening outlets of the mighty Vatnajökull glacier, hot springs, “the horny” mountain of Vestrahorn, an abandoned Viking Village and alluring waterfalls.
In the afternoon, drive along the cost to Jokulsarlon glacial lagoon continue on to Skaftafell National Park.
Skaftafell is an adventure playground for outdoor lovers! There are hiking and cycling trails, glacier hiking, magical ice cave explorations and ice climbing tours to suit all tastes and ability levels, there is even a boat trip which will weave its way between mystical towering icebergs.

Day 6: Vik
Continue on your drive to Vik to explore the area, or you can drive a little further to Hella.
