What you'll do

Day 1: Arrive in Iceland

Fly in from your chosen UK airport and land safely at Keflavik.

Pick up your car hire from the airport and drive to your Reykjavik hotel

Take the afternoon to explore the capital and enjoy some tasty Icelandic food for dinner. You could even visit the Blue Lagoon on the way from the airport.

Day 2: Explore Reykjavik

Spend another day in Reykjavik. You can choose whether to explore at your own pace or you can book one of our Reykjavik sightseeing tours at an extra cost.  You will learn about the rich history and culture that shaped Iceland by visiting the prime landmarks and attractions in and around the capital city. Sit back and enjoy educational commentary, interesting facts, and stories that relate to the most important locations in and around Reykjavik.

Day 3: The Golden Circle

Drive towards the Golden Circle and explore the area. Combining history, culture and extraordinary nature, you can see Thingvellir National Park and walk among the geological wonders of the fissure zone and in the footsteps of the early Viking settlers where the Althingi parliament was founded. You can then see the Gullfoss and feel the mist of glacial water as it cascades down one of Iceland’s most famous waterfalls.  Finally, you can witness the Geysir and hear the bubbling of the mud pots, smell the sulphur in the air and watch in awe as the geyser Strokkur blasts boiling water into the air.

Drive onto Hveragerdi where you will stay overnight.

Day 4: Snaefelsness Peninsula

Drive along the coast road in a westerly direction passing under the Hvalfjordur and then onto the Snaefelsness Peninsula via Borgarnes where you will be staying for 2 nights.

Day 5: Snaefelsness Peninsula

Continue to explore the Snaefelsness Peninsula at your own pace. In Snaefelsness you will find a wonderland of great geothermal activity with the most photographed mountain in Iceland, charming little fishing villages and extraordinary sights. The peninsula is often nicknamed “Iceland in a nutshell” due to its vast variety in and contrast!

You could also choose to go whale watching, enjoy a glacier snow mobile tour or bird watching at Arnastapi sea cliffs.

Day 6- Akureyri

Drive north on the ring road clockwise to The Northern capital of Akureyri and stay 3 nights in Akureyri, Husavik or Myvatn. 

You will explore each of these three places over the next three days so where you stay is completely up to you!

Day 7: Husavik

Explore the Diamond Ring of Husavik, Joulsargljufur National Park, Dettifosswaterfall and Lake Myvatn

Day 8: Myvatn Lagoon

Enjoy a relaxed day of leisure and visit the Myvatn lagoon to bathe in geothermal spring waters.

Day 9: Egillstadir

Drive across desert moonscape and the highland plateau to Egillstadir

Day 10: Eastern Fjords 

Drive south through the spectacular Eastern Fjords where towering terraced mountains plunge vertically into the ocean. Then continue on to the town of Hofn in Hornafjordur a gateway to the south coast.

Day 11: Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon

Drive along the coast road to the shimmering icebergs and still milky watersof Jokulsarlon glacial lagoon before continuing to Skaftafell National Park.

Optional glacier hike in Skaftafell can be booked for this day at an extra cost

Stay overnight in Skaftafell

Day 12: Vik

Drive to Vik and discover the black sand beaches, Dyrholaey headland,Skogafoss, Myrdalsjokull Glacier.

Day 13: Vik & Hella

Explore the areas surrounding Vik at your own leisure or drive a little further onto Hella and explore there

Day 14: Reykjavik

Return to Reykjavik for your last full day in Iceland.

Drive to the airport and drop the car hire off

Fly back to the UK

It is possible to add a Blue Lagoon tour to the morning of Day 15 at an extra cost.
