This classic Iceland fly drive takes you from Reykjavik down to the south of Iceland and then to the north so you can see all the very best parts of the beautiful country.
What you'll do
Day 1: Arrive in Iceland
Fly in from your chosen UK airport and land safely at Keflavik.
Pick up your car hire from the airport and drive to your Reykjavik hotel
Take the afternoon to explore the capital and enjoy some tasty Icelandic food for dinner
Stay overnight at your Reykjavik hotel
Day 2: Explore Reykjavik
Spend another day in the capital exploring the area at your own leisure, or book an additional Reykjavik sightseeing tour with us at an extra cost. You will learn about the rich history and culture that shaped Iceland by visiting the prime landmarks and attractions in and around the capital city. Sit back and enjoy educational commentary, interesting facts, and stories that relate to the most important locations in and around Reykjavik.

Day 3: The Golden Circle
Drive towards the Golden Circle and explore the area. Combining history, culture and extraordinary nature, you can see Thingvellir National Park and walk among the geological wonders of the fissure zone and in the footsteps of the early Viking settlers where the Althingi parliament was founded. You can then see the Gullfoss and feel the mist of glacial water as it cascades down one of Iceland’s most famous waterfalls. Finally, you can witness the Geysir and hear the bubbling of the mud pots, smell the sulphur in the air and watch in awe as the geyser Strokkur blasts boiling water into the air.
Then in the late afternoon, drive west towards Snaefellsnes and stay over night.

Day 4: Drive to Akureyri
Drive on the ring road north to Akureyri, the quickest route to the northern capital and stay one night. This will give you time to explore the town and it surroundings.

Day 5: Drive to Husavik
Drive towards Husavik and explore the area, even book a Whale Watching trip from the harbour (at an extra cost). Abundant summer daylight combined with a unique mixture of cold and warm sea currents that blend in Iceland's shallow fjords make the Icelandic territorial waters home to a rich variety of krill and fish, and consequently a bountiful feeding ground that attracts twenty-three species of whales.

Day 6: The Diamond Ring
Explore more of the Diamond Ring of Husavik, Dettifoss waterfall, Jokulsargljufur National Park and Lake Myvatn

Day 7: Back to Reykjavik
Retrace your steps back towards Reykjavik today and explore more places on your way back down

Day 8: Explore Reykjavik
Spend your last full day in Iceland enjoying the capital once more. Take in the culture or book another day trip for those that want to make the most of their time.
