Learn about the world's biggest mammals in a modern environment at the Whales of Iceland exhibition
The brand new Whales of Iceland museum features one of the largest whale exhibition in Europe. The whales are presented in a unique and illustrative way. 23 different life-size models that have been seen in Icelandic territorial waters have a permanent home at the museum. Detailed information about each of them is accessible including an interactive minke whale display.
The blue whale is the biggest one of them all, in full size and its length is nearly the same as a basketball court.
The museum is in only 20 minutes walking distance from the city centre but can also be reached by one of the city buses or the popular Hop-On Hop-Off Reykjavík City Sightseeing bus running every half an hour.
It is ideal to combine a visit to the museum with a Whale Watching tour before or after, in order to see the whales in their natural settings.
