Hvolsvöllur is a lively little town located centrally in South- Iceland.     The driving distance from KEF airport is about 150 km. (2 hours) and its central location gives the opportunity to stay there and organize all kinds of exciting tours and experiences.

Many of Iceland’s best-known volcanoes and eruption sites are visible from Hvolsvöllur, such as Hekla, Eyjafjallajökull, Katla, and Westman Island including Surtsey.

Hvolsvollur offers all normal services for its inhabitants and guests, such as a swimming pool, several small restaurants with good varieties of foods, a grocery store and pharmacy, as well as healthcare and emergency services. 

Among nearby attractions is Seljalandsfoss waterfall, (15 min. driving) and Skogarfoss waterfall (30 min. driving),  Thorsmork with Nauthusagil, and the black beaches of the south coast. 

Driving to Jökulsárlón takes about 3,5 hours, and gives the opportunity for an exciting day's tour, by visiting  f.ex.  Dyrholaey, Vik, Reynisfjara, Kirkjubaejarklaustur and Skaftafell.

Another option for a day trip from Hvolsvollur is going by ferry to Vestman Islands,  where there are available excursions by bus and by boat; and a visit to Eldheimar museum www.eldheimar.is is a must.    The ferry harbour is about 25 minutes’ drive from Hvolsvollur and the ferry is departing up to 7 times a day in the summertime.
