The Snæfellsnes peninsula in the west of Iceland is almost like a miniature version of the whole country. In addition to its emblematic Snæfellsjökull glacier, you will find white and black sand beaches, bird cliffs, spectacular mountains and volcanic craters, incredibly rich trout lakes and salmon rivers, lush valleys, and unique harbours in charming fishing villages.
On Snaefellsnes Peninsula a stunning natural landscape culminating in the spectacular glacier on Snaefellsjokull volcano. The western coastline abounds with strange rock formations and abundant birdlife, black sand beaches and quiet fishing villages. Icelandics belive that it is an area of mystical energy and power. Whale watching boats go from Olafsvik and Stikkisholmur (May - Sept) you are most likely to see bottlenose dolphins, Blue whales, Killer whales and Humpback whales.
