Located just 40 minutes’ drive from the city, Skálafell Skiing Area is a friendly resort that gets quite busy on the weekends. Depending on conditions, this resort opens from January 1st until May 1st, give or take a couple of weeks.
The slopes are not too steep so it’s a good place for beginners to find their feet. Ski equipment can be hired here, and the resort is well connected to Reykjavik. Skálafell boasts numerous slopes (some extending to 7 km (4.3 mi)), accessible to beginners and pros alike, as well a ski lodge, 4 chairlifts, off-piste trails and snow conditioning.
